Popstar Taylor Swift has received much backlash in recent months, as her relationship with Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, continues to thrive. While the pop star is bringing over 300 million dollars to the NFL, some fans are not happy with the amount of camera time she is getting at each game. Davis Moore, junior, said, “I just don’t like when they show her every time the Chiefs score.” Swift is often seen in an upper level suite cheering for the team with the Kelce family and Brittany Mahomes.
Swift and Kelce’s relationship started when Kelce attempted to give her a friendship bracelet with his number on it, and then invited her to the Arrowhead Stadium to watch him play. The couple was seen leaving this game together. This ignited the start of the rumors. The Chief’s coach, Andy Reid jokingly said, shortly after their first appearance, “I set them up.” The couple is receiving support not only from the team and Swifties, but also dads around the world. Timothy Kireta, history teacher, said that his daughter “has become more of a football fan, as well as began to exchange different articles about Swift and the NFL.” He said that in this new collaboration, he and his daughter started discussing the NFL a lot more. A lot of dads are expressing their gratitude that their daughters are wanting to sit down and watch football with them, even if it is just to see Taylor Swift. One dad in Connecticut said his daughter has become an NFL fan thanks to Taylor Swift, according to Aol.com.
Fans however, are also starting to speculate the logistics of Swift getting to the Superbowl from Japan in time. Swift is to perform in Japan, February tenth and then be in Las Vegas the eleventh to watch Kelce play. It seems as though Swift should arrive in Las Vegas before six in the morning, leaving her plenty of time until the game starts at six-thirty that afternoon. The singer is expected to generate great revenue for this game, as she has for the past few months.
There are also many mixed opinions on the Kelce brothers surfacing as they’re gaining a lot of spotlight because of Swift. The brothers do a podcast. Sean Donaldson, science teacher, said, “Jason is my hero” and that he thinks the Kelces are hilarious. Moore also said that he loves Jason Kelce, but is not a fan of Travis, unrelated to Swift. A video recently went viral of an NFL fan yelling at Swift, saying “You’re ruining football.” However, Donaldson said, “he just had two of his best games” in regards to speculation that Swift is ruining Kelce’s career.
This shift of focus onto the NFL related to the singer had made some viewers very mad, but it has also made a lot of people happy. Some football fans may be annoyed by the camera time that Swift is receiving, yet it is drawing in a great bit of revenue, as well as new fans. The Super Bowl is scheduled to be played in Las Vegas at six-thirty on February eleventh.
