For 19 years now, Club C.A.R.E, a service organization at the high school, has been hosting a charity dodgeball tournament, and this year is no exception. This year’s tournament takes place on March 16 at 11 in the high school gymnasium and will feature the game, a concession stand, and a performance by the dance team.
Club C.A.R.E puts a lot of work in before the tournament to make it a success. Kimmy Ward, junior, talked about what planning goes into this. Ward said, “We normally just have a divide and conquer plan and make sure that it is engaging for all ages from the prizes, food, and of course the game.” Every year the club donates the money to a charity of their choice. This year’s charity money will be split between local and national animal shelters, which help animals that need homes and animals that are being targeted across the world.
Kylie Zach, junior, is on the advertising committee for Club C.A.R.E. This committee is in charge of spreading the word about the tournament and creating “hype” for the event. Zach said, “My favorite thing about being on this committee is being able to make videos to put out to the community.” With the advertising committee, there is also a managerial committee and a food committee. Each committee is in charge of certain areas of the tournament that are needed to make sure there is success.
Admission for the tournament will be $2 for students and $4 for adults. The concession stands will offer hot dogs, walking tacos, chips, candy, and beverages. The winner of the tournament will get $120 which they may keep or donate back to the charity that the club has chosen.
