Since the start of the school year, there have been new hours in place for the Growler. These hours are in place due to the lack of trust Big Spring has in its students, and rightfully so. Certain Big Spring students will spend too much time at the Growler, which leads teachers to take away Growler access. This ultimately led to the change in Growler hours, and this impacted the entire student body.
Students should be going to the Growler, get food, and then head back to class. For most students, this is no problem, but for other students, they use the Growler as an excuse to get out of class.
The Growler hours should not have changed just because groups of students took advantage of this. Now, the entire school is affected by the change of hours, and not just the students who are responsible.
Keeping the Growler open at all times will boost student morale. Students at Big Spring high school have had to adapt to the new hours, and they no longer have the privilege of getting a snack whenever they want.
A solution to the problem of students taking advantage of the Growler, would be to just punish the kids who can’t be trusted. Teachers have the power to tell students if they can and can’t go to the Growler. So, why not take away the privilege of those who can’t be trusted instead of taking it away from everybody?
The website/application Ehallpass makes passes for students to go to the Growler or other places in the school. A time limit for Growler passes should be put in place, and when a student exceeds the time limit, their Growler privilege should be revoked. This would keep the hours open all day long, while weeding out the kids who take advantage of the Growler.
